The price seems a bit steep, but (here in Canada) if someone in your household has mobility problems or a disability and has proper documentation from their doctor, there are tax rebates and various programs that allow you to claim a portion of the cost of certain categories of equipment that maintain a person's ability to live independently at home.
I'm sure there are similar programs in the US.</description>
